There are a lot of mods out there that try to clean up the commonwealth, in one way or another. Some mods disable or make invisible the piles of junk lying around. Others remove the items from the world altogether. Still others add the ability to scrap these items in settlements. Ive been using Spring Cleaning for a long time, including scrapping and replacing junky parts of settlements like Abernathy Farm. My laptop has a GTX 970M, i7 5700HQ CPU and 16 gigs of DDR3 RAM, so I'm sitting right at recommended spec for FO4. With only Commonwealth Cleanup installed and active, I get maybe 10 FPS in some parts of downtown Boston (this is with shadow distance set to 0, shadow resolution set to 2K, god-rays off, everything else at default High presets). With a purely vanilla game, in that same exact area, I can usually stay above 30-40 FPS.That said, I still use it, because it goes a very, very long way towards satisfying my inner kleptopmaniac, especially when coupled with Scrap Everything (for settlements) and GKX's other mod Backbreaker - Big Junk. I'm working on a patch to give CC and BB-BJ the same scrap/output as what you'd get running Scrap Everything and Immersive Scrapping, which I also run because a lot of the vanilla scrap recipes make literally no sense.

I use Scrap Everything, and another mod (I can't recall the name of) that allows the player to leave the workshop boundaries.If you use Scrap Everything, scrap carefully.
